The Last Hope DVD/CD compilation of 16 movies was curated by Andrew Kidman and Aaron Curnow from the Spunk Records label. In 2004 Aaron released Andrew Kidman’s film and soundtrack Glass Love on Spunk in Australia. That year they toured the film and music together around the country. During this time Aaron proposed to Andrew the idea of a collaborative compilation with surfing filmmakers and the musicians he represented on his Spunk label.

Featuring films by: Albert Falzon, Jon Frank, Monty Webber, Richard Kenvin, Patrick Trefz, Michele Lockwood and Andrew Kidman.

Music by: Sufjan Stevens, My Morning Jacket, Bonnie Prince Billy, Holly Throsby, The Dirty Three, The Brown Birds From Windy Hill, Bill Callahan, Explosions in The Sky, Vetiver, Mogwai and Machine Translations.

Five years on we have, Last Hope – Featuring as a common theme: the raw beauty of the ocean, the songs were brought to life visually by some of the most artistic surfing filmmakers from the past thirty years. The filmmakers were sent hundreds of songs to choose from the Spunk catalogue. They picked what songs they wanted to work with and went about cutting films to them. They were told, “Do whatever you want, we want you to have the freedom to express your visions.” These films were sent back to Kidman to piece together. In its finality it became Last Hope.
